Harvest Team Member Sydney Ossman: "I chose to make made a Memory/ Sensory box, for people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Dementia, to be donated to the “Forget Me Not” collection in the Farmington Area Public Library. This collection was started in memory of Harry Richard Vawter, who recently passed. Richard was the grandfather of my brother and sisters and ultimately was like a grandfather to me. He cared for his wife Patricia Vawter, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2008. The family has welcomed me, and three other care givers, into their home to take over the responsibility of caring for their loved one. This particular box is inspired by sewing with the hopes that for someone like Patricia, who was a seamstress, will stimulate memories by touching an item like a thimble or a spool thread." 2018-19 Harvest Team is sponsored by: Lozier Oil, Bank of Farmington, Joe and Emily Webel, Chad Johnson-Jim Maloof Realtor, Farmington Community Bank and Marilyn & Larry Gibbs.

Mrs. Paige Burklund is our December Staff Member of the Month. She is in her 3rd year at Farmington Central High School. She has been married for 6 years and has 2 dogs, Tate and Tawney. Her favorite things about teaching include: watching students shift their perspectives towards positive personal and worldly changes; creating lessons that are student driven and that are "out of the box"; and learning alongside students to solve everyday issues. "My students challenge me to be better than I was yesterday, which is always a personal goal that I have. I am humbled and thankful for their lives!" Congratulations Mrs. Burklund!

Farmington Central High School presents "Beauty and the Beast" in April! In planning this show, we are looking for 3rd-8th graders to help fill some roles. It would be great to have younger students involved in a few songs and be throughout the show as needed. JUNIOR HIGH: We have decided to allow Junior High students (6-8th grade) to also audition for CHIP if they would like. That audition MUST happen during high school auditions (December 12 or 14). Sign ups will be sent out this week. The attached is a flyer (link below) MUST be signed before winter break in order for an audition to occur. Please turn in to Mrs. Hanlin or Mr. Lambert. October Staff Member of the Month is Mr. Bradley "Whit" Whitcomb. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Monmouth College and is currently working toward his Master's Degree in Mathematics from Illinois State University. He is currently in his 5th year of teaching math in Farmington. In addition to teaching, he has coached football and girls basketball for five years, and JH track for four years. He's really enjoyed my time here at Farmington, in the future would like to finish my Master's degree and begin offering dual-credit courses. If he hadn't become a teacher, he probably would have become a Country music singer. His favorite part about my time at Farmington is the relationships he's built with the students. "I'm very blessed to have found this place and call it home". Congratulations Mr. Whitcomb!

The results are finally in from State Parliamentary Procedure contest this past Monday. We placed 6th in the state among a very talented field of teams! Chair Karah Thomas placed 5th among the chairmen, Secretary Jacob Gibbs placed 7th among the secretaries in a 3-way tie for 7th. Christy Mahr placed 15th, Katie Barnett placed 19th, Gabe Benson placed 32nd, Jacob Gibbs placed 34th, and Sam Deppermann placed 40th as floor members. Congratulations on a strong run this year! From Section in January to Districts in May and State Finals in June, it was a long season with multiple practice meetings and tests but the results speak to the dedication shown by our outstanding members!
