The results are finally in from State Parliamentary Procedure contest this past Monday. We placed 6th in the state among a very talented field of teams! Chair Karah Thomas placed 5th among the chairmen, Secretary Jacob Gibbs placed 7th among the secretaries in a 3-way tie for 7th. Christy Mahr placed 15th, Katie Barnett placed 19th, Gabe Benson placed 32nd, Jacob Gibbs placed 34th, and Sam Deppermann placed 40th as floor members. Congratulations on a strong run this year! From Section in January to Districts in May and State Finals in June, it was a long season with multiple practice meetings and tests but the results speak to the dedication shown by our outstanding members!

Harvest Team Member Presley Fox shows her appreciation on behalf of the students to the 6 senior staff members at FCHS. Mr. Paul- 29 years! After reaching out to Mr. Paul one of the topics discussed was why he became a teacher he stated, “Science has always been a favorite topic of mine—I’ve always looked at science problems like puzzles that have to be figured out. You can’t just memorize answers to things, you have to take the information that you have and put it all together. As a teacher no two days are going to be the same. I may teach the same topics next year, but I’ll get to work with different personalities that present new challenges and new rewards.” Mr. Paul has been at Farmington for almost 30 years and he believes Farmington school district pushes it’s teachers to work their hardest. He has enjoyed working with his coworkers throughout the years. The most rewarding part for Mr. Paul is when he hears from former students and their successes.

Harvest Team Member Presley Fox shows her appreciation on behalf of the students to the 6 senior staff members at FCHS. Mr. Hardesty- 19 years! Mr. Hardesty describes his job at Farmington as “ The job of a lifetime.” He’s always wanted to be a social studies teacher along with a coach. Another question I had asked him was, “If you weren’t a teacher, what job would you want and what is a job you would be horrible at?” And after some discussion he came to the conclusion that he would probably want to be in the military. A job he said he would be bad at is anything involving food!

Kent Kowal visited the 8th grade History classes on Monday to give a Power point presentation about the Panama Canal. The 8th grade students had learned about the Panama Canal earlier in the year. Mr. Kowal shared pictures from his recent trip and explained in depth how the Panama Canal was built and how it works. The students enjoyed the presentation and learned a lot. A huge thank you to Mr. Kowal for spending his day with us.

Student Shout-out! Thank you to the community member who sent this in: "We hosted a (larger than we expected) wrestling tournament at the High School on Saturday and 3 of your students came to watch and support their classmates, as soon as they got there they jumped right in and asked if we needed help. We took them up on it as we actually did need extra help. I was very impressed with Dalton Powell, Paige Vallianatos, and Sam Fletcher. Dalton and Paige worked as table help, keeping time and score as we had 8 mats going and each mat needed 2 people at each table and Sam served as a runner for us." Way to go Dalton, Paige and Sam!

Two Livestock Judging contests in two days makes for a lot of fun, and it's even more fun when you do well! Yesterday, we traveled to Salem, IL for the Marion County 4-H contest. Katie Barnett placed 6th in swine, and 11th overall. Also competing yesterday were Zach Smith, Sam Deppermann, and Ethan Emken. Today, we competed in the Bushnell-Prairie City FFA Alumni contest. No individual awards were won but the team of Sam Deppermann, Drew Vawter, John Terrell and Christy Mahr took home 4th in beef and 2nd team overall!

★ Mrs. Susan Gibbs is December’s Staff Member of the Month. She is married and has three children. One of her favorite things about Farmington is the community spirit. When she joined the staff at Farmington she wanted to be part of the team that made Farmington the place to be! She enjoys the students, her co-workers, and especially getting to work with Brandi Foster every day. :) Mrs. Gibbs sends the morning announcements to all of the students, deals with the activity fund money, answers calls in the office, and is one of the ladies that help keep things in order here in the high school. Some of her hobbies outside of her job are crafting, home improvement projects, and supporting her kids and their activities. Come join us as FCHS Theatre Department presents "Game of Tiaras" this Friday and Saturday at 7pm. When the aging king of a Magical Kingdom (England) decides to split his empire between his three daughters, Cinderella, Belle, and the Snow Queen (who in no way resembles a copyrighted character), terrible tragedy ensues. Terrible, hilarious tragedy. Combining the gut-wrenching plot twists of Game of Thrones and the soul-numbing despair of Shakespearean tragedy, this adaptation of King Lear will leave you dying with laughter as the body count mounts. When you play the Game of Tiaras, you win or you die.

Today, Farmington Farmers visited the Monsanto Learning Center in Monmouth as part of our participation in the Fantasy Farming Challenge for local FFA chapters. We learned about some of the corn seed technologies being produced, and saw our plot for which the students made all the agronomic decisions (including seed variety, planting population, row spacing, nitrogen application, and fungicide and insecticide application). The results will be in once harvest is complete, but things look pretty good for our plot. Average yield estimates but sound decisions could have us in the running for most profitable plot!

From FCHS Key Club: Good afternoon! Are you ready to Eat For Change? Visit the Chipotle at either 300 West Washington Street in East Peoria or at 4512 N. Sterling Avenue in Peoria on Thursday, September 28 and 50% of your purchase will go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) efforts to find a cure for all blood cancers. All you have to do is mention that you are ordering to support LLS. This Eat for Change day is an additional effort our school is making for our annual Pennies for Patients campaign. All funds raised will count toward our school’s giving total, which furthers the mission of LLS and helps kids like Brooke live a long, full life. Thank you for your support, now and always.
