  • 03/15/2007- Farmington Central CUSD #265 Meets AYP

Farmington Central CUSD #265 is proud to announce having received notification of District #265’s Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) status.  According to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), Farmington Central District #265 has met AYP in all categories,”  Mr. Mark Doan, District #265 Superintendent stated.

For the past three years, District #265 has not met AYP because one subgroup did not meet the scoring threshold set by the ISBE.  I am pleased to report that all subgroups met the required target scores this year.  Individually, District #265’s three schools have always met AYP; however, as a District, AYP must be attained for two consecutive years in order to receive acceptable State and Federal Improvement status from the ISBE.

“As Superintendent of Farmington Central CUSD #265, it is my personal feeling that using a one-time, high stakes test is not based upon sound educational research or a fair determination on whether teaching and learning is occurring.  However, this is the standard that all schools must abide by and the public uses this information for comparison purposes.  Our students, staff and administrators are meeting this challenge.” Doan asserted.

Just a couple of highlights on the testing outcomes:

    • On all state tests (PSAE and ISAT) nearly 80% of all District #265 students meet or exceed state standards.
    • On all ISAT tests (grades 3, 4, 5, 7, & 8) District #265 had 86.1% of our students meeting or exceeding state standards.

    • Reading scores:           3rd: 78.4           70.7                 Math scores:    3rd: 88.9           85.6

    4th: 80.2           72.9                                         4th: 93.4           84.8

    7th: 94.1           80.9

Mr. Doan continued, “I would like to give all of our staff a very big thank you for their hard work and determination when preparing our students for these tests.  They have made these tests a priority.  Our staff has shown flexibility to help our students become successful.”

4th Grade News: The 4th grade has been observing the 14th annual National TV Turn-off Week. The purpose of the week is to rethink the role of TV---why we use it, how we use it, and to assess the impact television has on students, teachers, and families. The students, teachers, and their families were challenged to turn-off their TVs from April 21st until April 27th. The ban included Playstation, Gameboys, etc. The goal is to get everyone active and interacting. Mrs. Smith, our camera woman, and Breanna Springer, our roving reporter, interviewed several students and teachers about their feelings and degrees of success in the challenge. This video will be viewed at our 4th Annual Farmington Central 4th Grade Talent show which will be held in the Jr. High gym on Monday, April 28th from 6-8. The purpose of the talent show is to celebrate our successful participation in TV Turn-off Week and to share the talents of our 4th graders who have been practicing their talents instead of watching TV. “Turn off TV; Turn on Life!”

Mon. April 28 - 4th grade talent show from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm in the Junior High Gym.

Tue. April 29- 5th grade field trip to tour either Heritage Bank in Trivoli or Bank of Farmington. After the bank tours the busses will go to O’Brien Field in Peoria and the students will enjoy a baseball game.

The morning of April 12, the students were invited to an Easter Egg Hunt at the senior care center. Many of the seniors had helped to stuff the eggs with special reats. The students sang a few songs and did their class cheer for the residents before heading outside to hunt for the eggs.
The residents watched from the dining room windows. After the Easter Egg Hunt both groups enjoyed delicious refreshments provided by the Farmington Country Manor Staff. It was a memorable time for everyone present.

  • 07/20/2006- Farmington Junior High Band Students Attend Camp

CENTRAL ILLINOIS SUMMER BAND CAMP was held at Bradley University JUNE 19-23 The sounds of young musicians were filling the halls of Constance Hall and the Dingledine Music Center as Bradley University was hosting the 2nd Central Illinois Band Camp for junior high school students on campus from June 19-23. This camp is supported by a grant from the Wurlitzer Foundation and will consist of 80 young musically talented students from the Tri-County area. Like many band camps, students perform in a concert band and benefit from sectional rehearsals. What makes this camp unique is a focus on teaching listening skills; the use of a number of musical transcriptions; and a class that offers basic theory skills to all students, and that explains the name, “From Playing to Listening!”

Dr. David Vroman, Director of Band Activities at Bradley University, is the camp director and organizer. A staff of outstanding music teachers will offer individual and sectional instruction to the campers on a daily basis. During the day there are rehearsals in the Dingledine Music Center and then the students go to sectionals and theory classes in Constance Hall. Additionally, at 12:30 pm each day the students hear outstanding musicians from the Peoria Symphony Orchestra as they share information about music and their own musical careers. In addition to learning and sharing music, the students are building new friendships and realizing that music is fun and a rewarding life experience.

Farmington Junior High Students attending the camp were (from left to right) front row; Laura Wolford, Jake Ryba, Ian Goggill, Josh Gilles, Andrew Goggill; back row; Craig Wallace, Seth Vohland, Ashlee Franken; Nick Kovanda, Chad Zessin and Alecia Gates.
