Each year, the IPA (Illinois Principals Association) recognizes two remarkable students from each school for their outstanding work and leadership. Students are recognized annually at the CIV Region's Student Recognition Breakfast. Each area principal has a set of criteria used to appoint their respective students, including leadership, scholarship, community involvement, and character. Being recognized by the IPA indicates that the student exemplifies these qualities and reflects what school means to the students and local community.
Kirk Melton has been a cornerstone of the FCHS school community throughout his entire high school career. Over the past four years, Kirk has been deeply involved in the National Honor Society, Key Club, FFA, and Drama Club, while serving as a vital member of the FCHS Unified program. He has thrived in every organization he joins, notably earning the FFA All-Around Aggie Award and twice receiving the Key Club Leadership Award. Kirk’s passion for the arts is evident in his role as the 2025-2026 Drama Club President, continuing a dedication to theater that dates back to junior high. His leadership extends into school governance and service as well; he served as the Student Board Member for the 2025-2026 school year, is an Illinois State Scholar, and has acted as a student leader for the Red Cross Blood Drive for the past two years. A champion for inclusion, Kirk chaired the Unified Prom Committee for two years, hosted Unified Sports Day, and competed on the Unified Basketball, Bowling, and Track teams. His voice is literally the sound of the school, having delivered the morning announcements to the student body for the last three years. Outside of FCHS, Kirk remains active in the community, serving as a youth group president and spending two years as the president of 4-H. Following graduation, Kirk plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in Special Education and begin a teaching career, with long-term goals of obtaining a master’s degree in education.
IPA Award winner Ryan Helle has been an exceptionally active and dedicated leader throughout his career at Farmington Central High School. Currently ranked second in his class, Ryan is an Illinois State Scholar, a Sterling Merit Award winner, and an alumnus of Illinois Premier Boys State. Ryan’s leadership is central to the FCHS community, where he serves as the Vice President of both the National Honor Society and Key Club. His commitment to service extends beyond the school walls; he frequently volunteers with the Salvation Army during the holidays and stays active in his church community through event support and seasonal outreach. A well-rounded student-athlete, Ryan has participated in Cross Country, Track, Science Olympiad, and ACES throughout his four years of high school. Following graduation, Ryan will attend the University of Missouri to study Mechanical Engineering. Driven by a desire to serve his country, he will participate in the NROTC program with the goal of commissioning as an officer in the United States Navy upon college graduation.
FCHS congratulates both students on their outstanding work and wishes them well in the future!
