Hot Weather Guidelines & Decision-Making
For the sake of transparency and to help our families and community better understand how weather-related decisions are made, I wanted to share the guidelines provided by the IHSA and IESA regarding participation during periods of extreme heat.
The Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) is the primary measurement we use to determine the appropriate level of precautions and make decisions regarding outdoor activities. WBGT takes multiple environmental factors into consideration, including air temperature, humidity, heat index, and UV exposure.
At Farmington Central, we utilize a WBGT monitor at school, along with a weather app, to monitor conditions and make the most appropriate and informed decisions regarding practices, games, and activities. For example, the WBGT reading as of 3:14 PM today is 87 degrees.
Our goal is always to prioritize the health and safety of our student-athletes and participants while following IHSA and IESA guidelines.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding weather-related postponements, cancellations, or modifications, please contact District Activities and Athletic Director Jeff Otto.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our students safe!

Here are the changes to our outdoor practices/games for today:
JH Baseball game is still being played. We will take longer breaks in between innings if necessary.
JH Softball practice will end at 4:45 PM and will be a light practice with water breaks when necessary.
JV Football game will start at 7 PM.
JH Cross Country will end at 4:30 PM.
HS Cross Country will practice indoors today.
HS Boys Golf will be at the driving range and will be very brief.
HS Girls Golf match at Macomb has been cancelled. Practice will be very brief after school.
The NFHS Network at the football stadium is currently down and we are hoping it is fixed this week. That is not likely to happen today. Hudl is also down as we wait on a new camera to be installed. Unfortunately, we do not think we will be able to live stream the JV game anywhere this evening. If something changes, we will let you know and post the link to stream here on social media. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The JV Football game tonight will start at 7 PM due to the expected high temperatures today.
The Activities and Athletic Department is paying close attention to the expected temperatures for this week. Please check here for any cancellations, rescheduling and time changes. Any updates will be posted here and decisions will be made on a daily basis. We will do our best to get our regularly scheduled games and practices in this week. Be prepared for any outdoor activities to be moved to start later in the evenings.
Congratulations to our JV Volleyball team on a second place finish at the Farmington Invitational Tournament! The team finished 2-1 on the day.
Congratulations to our IB/Farmington Soccer team! They are back-to-back
